AI imagery is a production option, not proof of better sales

AI-assisted images can help teams explore settings, campaign concepts, and visual variations without arranging a full shoot for every idea. That can be useful for early creative exploration or brand scenes, especially when a business needs assets at a steady pace.

There is no automatic sales lift. Results depend on product, audience, image quality, placement, offer, and the trust customers place in the representation. Evaluate the images with customer behavior and feedback rather than assuming novelty will convert.

Accuracy is the central product risk

A generated image may alter packaging, color, proportions, texture, included accessories, or how a product works. A visually polished but inaccurate image can create disappointment, returns, complaints, or legal risk. The closer an image is to a factual product depiction, the more carefully it should be checked against approved references.

Use a real product photograph for details that must be exact, such as labels, dimensions, materials, and controls. AI may be appropriate for a background or a clearly conceptual scene when it does not misstate the product. Keep image retouching from changing the item’s defining properties.

Be transparent and check platform requirements

Consumer research suggests transparency around AI imagery matters to many shoppers. Disclosure expectations and requirements can vary by jurisdiction, platform, and use case, so verify applicable rules before publishing. Google Merchant Center has specific metadata requirements for AI-generated imagery in product feeds.

A practical quality review checks the image at full size, on a phone, and beside the actual product. Ask whether a customer could reasonably infer a feature, quantity, or use that the product does not provide.

Test for trust as well as clicks

Compare clearly defined image treatments while keeping the offer and audience as stable as possible. Track conversion quality, questions, returns, and customer complaints—not just click-through rate. Use a sample size and period appropriate to the business; small tests are directional rather than conclusive.

The useful question is not whether AI can make an attractive image. It is whether the image communicates the real product clearly and helps the right customer make an informed choice.
